Yes, I realize

It's been so long. However... I don't have a computer at home right now, so blogging is on the backburner. For times like now, in the library. (This doesn't happen very often.)

An updated list of what's up, seeing as if I write about everything, it'll take way toooooo long.
  • No baby yet. She's getting anxious
  • HAPPY 20th BIRTHDAY (yesterday) to my dear sister Michelle!!! I wish I could've seen her yesterday to give her a big hug... but she's far, far away.
  • The WINGS are up in the series against Dallas 3 games to 1. Hopefully Saturday afternoon they'll be celebrating making it to the CUP Finals!
  • David, Kathleen, and Greta are done with high school!!!! Their last day of school was yesterday. I was subbing in the middle school, looking around, thinking that they should still be down there. They should still be 12, 13, 14. Not 18 and moving on to the big world of independence and college! Seriously, you don't pay too close attention for about two minutes, and wham! they're graduating. Congratulations!! (The big day is next week.)
  • Happy 3rd Anniversary to Jill and Ryan (on the 14th)!
  • Some friends and I are thinking about heading to Det for a Tigers game. Is it worth it though? Are they going to put it all together and dominate like they can some days? Or are they going to get a few base runners in the whole nine innings and not send a single one home? argh, is it worth it?
  • Kelly is halfway through Optometry school!!! In TWO short years, she's going to be an eye doctor! Way to go, Kelly! I know it hasn't been easy, but you're getting there!
  • Speaking of Kelly (not the same one), she was sick for 5 or 6 days there. :( So I went over there the other day to hang out with Addy (2 and a half) and help out. Nice help I am -- I was making dinner and started a fire. Twice. Good news, though! They were able to save the house. Just kidding -- the fires lasted for all of 10 seconds, and there was no damage (except to my self-confidence in cooking). So they DID save the house, but it never got past the stove top. Go, Karen.
  • My baby sis is going to be SEVENTEEN next week. And seeing as I get on here so often lately.... I think I better mention it now. HAPPY SEVENTEENTH BIRTHDAY JULES!!!!!!
  • Gotta go -- back to class!!

Going and going and going...

What a week!
FYI: On one side of my family (my mom's side), there are five cousins getting married in less than five months. (There are two cousins getting married on the other side -- in two months.)

That makes for lots of showers and busy days! And they always seem to be close together. Janet's bridal shower was on Thursday evening, Lori's was this morning, then Scott and Janet got married this afternoon. They came up from SC for their wedding, so that's why the shower and wedding were so close together. I went to their reception this afternoon, and everything looked great! It was fun to see everyone there -- guys, girls, families, kids, etc. The showers are just for the ladies, so we don't always see the uncles and boy cousins. It was nice to see everyone. Carmen and Brent are here from CA, too! I missed their wedding last summer when I was in Connecticut, so it was awesome to see them. :)

I can't believe I didn't already say this, but what a day yesterday!!! I subbed in the morning and saw a fellow teacher that I went to college with -- haven't seen him in about three years, so it was cool to see him, hear what he's been up to. Then I was at my second job for about half an hour and heard that another friend from college was in town -- just for the weekend for some meetings at the university. So I called him and he had a couple of hours free so we could catch up. It was so nice just visiting and hanging out! There were some weird cirumstances (had to bring someone to the airport, then her flight was cancelled, so we went back and picked her up and she spent some time with us -- neither Adrian nor I knew her. One of those "that was really weird" situations), but we had a great time. When I was saying goodbye to him, we both said that we were glad we were still the same friends we were in college.

Sometimes when people leave a place (ie. college) and move on from that time and those circumstances, things really change. It was so nice that we still had the same connection (for lack of a better word) -- just that we could still laugh and joke and tease and "get" the same things (inside jokes, etc). So it was just cool. YO!

That's all for now.... except, I guess

Y-E-A Wings!! Up 2 games to zero! :) woo-whooooo!!!!!!!

Redoing the floors

Here's how our latest remodel project at home has gone.

For the past year or so: "Let's take the carpeting out of the downstairs! There are hardwood floors underneath!" So, on Friday March 28th, the carpeting came out.

Then someone decided that once we're doing that, we should repaint the walls. ---Okay, not a big deal. We'll repaint the walls.

Next, "once we're doing this, why don't we get rid of the locker room, move the closet, and take out a couple of walls..." --This job's getting really really big!! (we're not done yet, though!)

A few days later... "Might as well take out the rest of the carpeting (in the back entry), and the linoleum in the bathroom and replace it with tile!" --Whoa, it's getting overwhelming... Why stop here, though...

Out came the toilet and sink in the bathroom, and we're getting new ones. and maybe a new back door.

Other things that are getting done as a result of this: the walls on the steps going up to the kitchen are changing, too. And my sister Julie and I put ourselves in charge of the drapes for the living room and sitting room. Let's add in new light fixtures.

I think that covers it all. I'm not entirely sure -- I may have to update later. Poor people who stop over to visit lately. Our house (which is usually kind of flying anyways) is flying! Along with the garage and everything else.... whew!!! It'll all be worth it once it's done, though!

Baby, baby!

Kristin's baby shower was yesterday evening at Elizabeth's. She was surprised! :) It's so much fun when it's that way! She got so many wonderful things. One of her sisters-in-law made the comment at the beginning "Baby showers are so much more fun than bridal showers. How fun are pots and pans? Baby clothes are so cute!" and I have to agree! We have obviously all seen baby clothes, and babies... but still, when she would open a gift and pull out a little tiny pink dress, you should've heard the oooooohs and comments. It was so cute! What a fun night, hey Kristin?

SNOW day today. Yes, I'm aware it is April 11th. Someone forgot to tell the snowclouds and winds that it's not supposed to blizzard in April. It was a blizzard for awhile there. But I went to sleep super late last night after the shower, so I appreciated waking up at 6:30 only to hear that I could go back to sleeeeeeep! Oh, the joys of teaching!

In news from my other job: I used to be a teaching assistant at the university. Now I'm sort of on the other end. I'm in charge of hiring them. So I'm in the process of looking at applications/resumes/talking to references and scheduling interviews. Next week's going to be full of interviews -- and I hope to hire ten teaching assistants by Friday afternoon. Think I'll be successful? I'm really excited about it all! I think it's going to be really fun being on the other side of the interview, and just to see how other people are during interviews.

Yesterday my sister convinced me to try accupuncture. I'll let y'all know how that one works out for me. I'm actually quite anxious to try it out!

That's all for now...

Slacking again!

Life's busy, and I don't have a computer at home. Those are my excuses for not updating more regularly. This is sad, these once every two-weeks updates. :( Sorry. Mostly it's the second one. Life's not that busy right now. Just not having a computer kind of complicates things.

Wedding planning is coming along. We're in the process of ordering bridesmaid dresses, and slowly but surely Michelle is figuring things out. She's moving south for about five weeks on the 18th for a PTA clinical...

Liz moved into her place! Well, sort of. John's side. They've been working to get her side ready, and then she's going to move next door.

We're in the process of remodeling our downstairs! Well, the living room/sitting room/back entry/closet area of the downstairs. The carpet is gone and we sanded/refinished the hardwood floors. It sure has a different look! and we took out a few walls to open up the entry way to the sitting room. There's a few things that still have to be done -- walls painted, one wall put up, and tile down on the entry, bathroom, and closet floors.

GO DETROIT RED WINGS!! First up: Nashville Predators! Kind of strange -- usually our first round opponent is on the West Coast. Not practically the next-door neighbors. That'll be nice for all of the travels back and forth.

Liz, Leanne, and I were trying our hardest to figure out a date for an NYC trip this spring. SADLY, I don't think we figured one out. :( So we might have to wait until fall. :( Sad.

The new job is going great! I'm really enjoying my projects. (I'm still subbing, too, so it's keeping me busy!)

come and gone

My 1st blog anniversary came and went the other day. I didn't celebrate it at all, and I'm such a slacker on here.

Recent events: HAPPY FIRST ANNIVERSARY BOB AND MARIA!!! It was actually last Monday. We thought about/talked about that wonderful day last year on and off on the day of their anniversary. Hard to believe it's been a year!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TAMARA! another belated one. Her's was last Sunday, March 16th. Hope you got to celebrate with friends and loved ones! (I MISS this girl!!!!)

Easter: I was remembering my last Easter in New Hampshire. I drove up on Saturday afternoon and stayed with Jim and Lynne, then Bob and Maria (Sunday night). I got to be their first overnight guest :) in their apartment. This Easter (yesterday) I went to church twice. I got home from eating dinner at morning church, and one of my friends called to see if I wanted to go to afternoon church. There are so many messages to be heard about Easter! Here's a photo from last year's dinner at Jim and Lynne's:

Six sisters plus MOM went on a shopping trip on Saturday. What a long day! It was the first time it was the six of us and mom. Usually one or two sisters are missing. We may have found bridesmaid dresses, and a color, so that's a plus!! Michelle picked out some sweet vases for the tables, and decided on flowers. Things are moving along! :)

Busy spring coming up!
Wedding planning, track meets, golf meets, graduations (college and high school!), baby baby :) (my niece/nephew), it's going to pass before it even starts!!
I've been getting some conversations about college going with David and Kathleen. They'll be heading off (down the road) to college in September. (Much to do before then, though!)

Whew! Busy week this week. I'm subbing all five days, plus I started a part time job at the university last week. It's for twenty hours per week, so I'm going to have my hands full getting those hours into the evenings. Today was an 8am - 8:30pm day. and I'm a little sick. ack!

And for fun: Here's when I met Hugh Grant last spring in NYC. A random fun day in the city with Katharina. We almost got stuck in the city because there was a massive rainstorm.

Quicker

Quick update! I'm at my sister's for a girl's night, but I thought I BETTER update this!

My sis Shelmz and Ed are engaged!!! Saturday morning he popped the question :) The big day is planned for July 26th. There's a photo of them on this page, down a couple of posts. They're the couple in black. We're all SO HAPPY for them!!!! Wedding planning, here we come!

My brother David's team won the state championship!! GO DAVE!! CONGRATS! There was a big welcome home for them yesterday, complete with firetrucks from our town and all the surrounding ones, police cars, etc. Cars lined up all over town, the highway, etc.
