Middle of the night

I've heard about these kinds of nights from other moms, but thankfully haven't had more than a few myself. The little guy is getting his sleep in Momma's arms tonight. He has lasted a maximum of 4 minutes in his own bed over the last almost three hours. So I'll hold him & he'll sleep contently. I'm not quite sure when that means I'll sleep, but I'll figure it out.

I'm catching up on other people's blogs & spending some quality time on Pinterest.

Monday Monday

Things on my mind & on my list:
We started getting rid of our seasoning packets in favor of homemade spice combos & so far it has all been yummy! My next made-from-scratch foray will be into dressings. We've gotten sick of looking at food labels & seeing things we don't recognize as a spice or "whole" food. So many additives that I no longer welcome into my meat :) We've been talking about doing our own dressings for a few weeks now & today I got the "push" to go for it when we had taco salad. I usually use Western dressing on it but that has high fructose corn syrup as the #1 ingredient. Since I'm going corn-free, that was out. I also make a sweet pepper/tomato/onion salad to go on the taco salad. Unfortunately I partly season it with Italian dressing, and that also has hfcs and soybean oil. So tonight my taco salad was lettuce, ground turkey (seasoned with my homemade seasoning), and cheese. We also love to top it with corn chips (usually Nacho Cheese Doritos), but of course those are out. Not quite as exciting as usual. The one thing I can change is the dressings. I'll be getting on that this week!

Dave's starting to feel better. Whew! He's been pretty sick since the day after Christmas. I'm crossing my fingers that he continues to get healthier.

Unfortunately I'm not feeling well. :(

Aiden is still good!

I have a big milestone/day coming up really quickly. :/ I told Dave we need to live it up til then... Not sure what we're going to do. Hmmm.

Smiling!

Aiden seems to be feeling better. He's even smiling this morning. :)
Now he just needs to relearn how to sleep at night. I hope he didn't forget!

I learned a lesson last night & already shared it on Facebook. It was a painful lesson, so I want to share as much as possible so no one else has to go through what I did.
I failed to use gloves when slicing and de-seeding a jalapeƱo (yes, just ONE) last night. My hand burned so badly I could hardly stand it. I read a bunch of remedies online & finally found relief from one of the remedies I read about. Apple cider vinegar diluted with some water and about 6 ice cubes. It wasn't ver long-lasting relief, but at least it felt better while my hand was in the solution. Ten minutes later the burn was back. It took about 4 to 5 hours to get to the point where I could fall asleep.

Btw I made some cucumber salsa that I cannot wait to try!

Motherhood

When we had Aiden in the hospital for so long after he was born, I felt like it was an introduction to motherhood (or parenthood). The past couple days I feel are another big indication of what life will be like sometimes as a mom. Aiden isn't sleeping at night, is really fussy/whiny, and I haven't really found anything I can do to comfort him. He seems warm and has a slight runny nose. On top of that...
Dave has been sick for over a week now. He had a fever for a few days, it went away, and now it's back. Along with that is a headache and chest congestion with a cough. Add to all of that, he's working a ten hour night shift these days. He's trying to sleep as much as possible so he can get better.

Oh, and we don't know anyone else in this town, so I'm on my own.
Help?

So many thoughts

I have lots of thoughts going on in my head that I want to talk about, but its past midnight at home. And I'm not much of a phone person anyway. Here goes...
I've never made a New Years resolution before. Twenty-some years & I'm not about to change that. However, there are a few changes I am making for myself. Aiden is three months old & I'm not exactly happy with my post-pregnancy "shape," so I am going to do something about it. I recently was tested for food sensitivities. I should stay away from corn and soy because my body isn't really digesting either one, so that is one change. Dave and I always limit our wheat/gluten and we are going to continue that. Since Aiden was born, I have been into the sweets. I have to cut that out. And lastly, together Dave and I are going to do some kind of daily exercise. I started that one today, so we'll see how these 'ole muscles feel tomorrow.
I'm so good at making excuses inside my head about eating chocolate (my #1 go-to, feel-good food), and I need to stop that. There we go. Put all of that together and hopefully I will be happy with the results. I'm not big on striving for a number, but rather getting to a point where I will feel comfortable with how I look. (At the same time, though, I know approximately what number will make me feel good.)

Aiden is doing well. I've read babies generally should double their birth weight by 3 months. He was 7 lb, 4 oz at birth and now he's 14 lb, 9 oz. Pretty darn close!! He wasn't feeling so great last night & earlier today, but he's back to himself this evening.

Dave is sick :( and has been for over a week now. His fever went away & is back now. He also has a permanent headache & a cough. Since I've known him, he's never been this sick. I can't wait til he feels better!!

We were home for the holidays, and I had a chance to visit & catch up with some dear friends. I was so glad things worked out so well, seeing people.

Now if I still have any readers left on this blog, I'd like to wish you a happy, healthy, and positive 2013!
Any resolutions out there?
